“I am proud to call this city home since 1968, continuing a legacy my family began as second-generation homeowners. This is not just where I live it is where I have grown deep roots, built lasting relationships, and come to truly love Mt. Vernon.”

I currently lead grades PreK3 - 8th at the Rob!nHood school library located in Harlem, New York. A member of NYC Department of Education for over 28 years. What is most inspirational is seeing Young Readers fall in love with reading. During the height of COVID, when I began pursuing the path to become a School Librarian. If our school did not have a librarian they would have discontinued the program. The incredible staff at the Mount Vernon Public Library were right there with me offering hands-on support that helped me accomplish something truly meaningful. In addition to being the school librarian I am the Sustainability Coordinator and My Sister’s Keeper Liaison. This gives me the opportunity to be a part of shaping lifelong learners in the educational sector. I know that this opportunity of becoming young Climate Action Activists needs to pour out into compromised neighborhoods.
Living in Mount Vernon has made it all the more rewarding. I love being able to park at the Metro North station, listen to a podcast for 20 minutes and hop off in Harlem. This is a part of my most peaceful parts of my day. If you’ve seen someone smiling on the Mount Vernon East platform, eager to get to work, it was probably me.

As parent in Mt. Vernon, it was always important to me to be involved in my sons’ education and the school community. They attended Graham Elementary School, where I proudly joined the PTA and remained an active Community Parent even after they graduated. My husband and I wanted our sons to know they were growing up in a loving, supportive environment, one that valued education, respect, and preparation. Together we made sure they had not just academic support, but the educational etiquette to carry them forward. Not to mention the ability to take peaceful walks to and from school especially on a crisp day with their mittens on.
